Sumi-E - Introduction to the Japanese Charcoal Ink Art
Rooted in Zen Buddhism, Sumi-E is a spiritual practice exploring balance, simplicity and nature. It uses only a brush and the Japanese black charcoal ink to create images. In this class, participants will explore infinite shades of black and white by varying ink dilution and brush strokes and pressure. This type of painting emphasizes simple, expressive brushstrokes to capture the spirit of subjects, not just their form.
