Intermediate Metalsmithing: Fused Silver Jewelry

In this Intermediate level class, students will learn the art of fusing silver pieces together only using a torch without the benefit of solder. As they work, they will create a structure and begin adding layers of silver sheet or wire to be fused until their piece is fully designed and functional.
They will add bails or jump rings or even create a ring! Students will learn the process of depletion gilding to remove any fire scale and finally they will make design choices regarding their surface textures. This is a fast-paced class with intense learning opportunities. Take your skills to the next level and learn to control the torch and “read” the metal.
Note: Please be aware that this class requires a certain amount of hand strength and manual dexterity. It is important to know your limitations. For safety reasons: Please wear cotton clothing only and nothing loose fitting. Long hair MUST be tied up. Please wear closed-toed shoes.
