Sharon Thomas Duca is an artist, art instructor/ teacher facilitator, who retired from the Gary Community School Corporation. She holds a bachelor's degree in art education from Purdue University and a master's degree in secondary education Indiana University. She created a summer program called Visions of the Future-Portrait of Unity for student in grades three to twelve. It was a program that featured visual arts, music, dance, and drama. She has exhibited her artwork in Indianapolis, Indiana. and has won prizes at the Indianapolis Black Expo. By collaborating with the United States Post Office for the Wee Deliver program, she created Ebony Invention, Indiana City with the staff and students at an elementary school to promote a literacy program focusing on letter writing, language arts skills, visual arts, black history, and science with real life experiences. They established a functional postal service where the students ran the post office. This program helped prepare students to be productive, responsible, and caring citizens in a diverse, global technological society as they all worked together to make the world a better place. She received a 4th Annual Hall of Fame Award from Tamarac Historical Society in Tamarac, Florida for her outstanding participation in the arts. Also, she has received several awards and honors throughout her art career. She is a native of Gary, Indiana. She has two sons and a granddaughter. and she resides in Ocala, Florida with her husband, Vinson Duca
